DISABILITY and ABILITY ©2013 Jay Schiffres

Born without a voice
Parents thought him slow
When he finally spoke
Had temper tantrums
A little older
Couldn’t make friends
Hated school
Dropped out
Flunked out of tech school
Got a lowly job
Treated his wife badly
Played around they say
Divorced
Not exactly a role model
Oh, He did have a quest
And an equation
E=mc2

Just Walking toward What ©2013 Jay Schiffres

Dreams come and go

It’s time to awaken
What’s  in your veins
Gonna leave it like this?
Content in nothingness
Hugging the past
Your children won’t pick up the trail
I know you understand that well.
No one is to blame
That’s understood
But when the fault is plain
Will we meet again?

Not So Fast(The Wisdom of Yogi Berra)
 © 2013 Jay Schiffres
The world slips away?
Had its day?
Run to the shade?
No. Life is rolling
This way and that
Nothing is forbidden
When dancing with the light
Evil possibly
In sad brains
Well then,
Dance mightily
For another day
No cosmic explosion
Keep moving on
The mechanical age is passing
Lost its initial charm
Life rolls through it all
Rolls on the land and seas
It ain’t over till it’s over
Here, there, and in-between

Leaving Home

If you come home
I will be there
It’s only fair

Since I sent you away
I have to pay
It’s me not you

It’s only fair
To love the one who got away
Only fair
That I stay away

Gonna miss you
Gonna feel blue
If you come home
There’s a room here

It’s only fair

Ain’t gonna die
From the
Losing you

RIVER RAT (C) 2013 Jay Schiffres

I got soul on the river
I’m a river rat
Got soul on the river
I’m a river rat
Got soul on the river
Just like that

They say I’m a fool
How bout that
Tell me I’m not schooled
Just like that
Say what you want
Do what you must
I’m heading for the mountain
That I trust

Got soul on the river
I’m a river rat
Soul on the river
I’m a river rat

One day soon the river will burn
You had your time
Now it’s time to learn

Soul on the river
I’m a river rat
Soul on the river
Just like that

Take your children
And your property
The tide is rising
Can you believe?
In soul on the river
Soul on the river
Soul on the river......

Shavout (c)2013 Jay Schiffres

Dreaming

Had a dream
Found myself
In the Holy Land
Everything painted with multicolored sand
The Rainbow plan
Brushed my clothes and began to walk
Saw camels and Bedouins
And Arabian crowns
Saw Dancing
And Laughter
People high - found
No blood on the paths
Or guns on hips
Exchanged for smiles, joy, love
Universal kisses
No screams of pain
Just prayers of forgiving

Lied down
Under the tree
Where Jonah had been
Understood why G_d saved Nivian
And I smiled at my faith
And I smiled at the wind

Awoke - up tall
Can’t waste time
Return filled my soul
With an ancient refrain
Do unto others…………

Shabbat Shalom(c)2013 Jay Schiffres

Simple is good
Things will come
And go
In the money
Out of dough
Just go slow
There’s a plan
Smile
Simple is good
And to all
A Good night
(:

Sabbath Table (c)2013 Jay Schiffres

Lock and Load (c)2013 Jay Schiffres

LOCK AND LOAD

Can the blind
Be excused
For stumbling
As the Senators
Vote on the death
Machines
Its ok to shoot
Ask questions later
Especially when paid by the NRA
Why we put up with this
You got me
We have idiots
Casting votes with green greed
They could care less
When children
Bleed from what’s left of their heads
I suppose they would
Vote for Marathon bombs

CHICKEN POPA BLUES

CHICKEN POPA  BLUES © 2013 Jay Schiffres

Can’t happen here is what you said
So how did we all end up dead
North Korean dynasty
Aiming our way
Well they won’t hurt us
Hide your faces
Wait a few years
Fat boy will leave
No reason for fright
Be wise and discrete
You got everything to lose
So run with your feet
No reason to bare your arms

Once was a country
To weak to see
Loving their lap tops
But forgot how to think
Can’t happen here is what you said
Can’t happen here

Bugging (c) 2013 Jay Schiffres

Protesters crowd the streets during the 1968 convention.

Conventinal Wisdom (c) 2013 Jay Schiffres

Can you say
Which way
Down the dusty road
To freedom
Death is easy
When it comes naturally
For Popes, Mullahs
Rabbis, Priests
Sacrificial lambs

Blood on the horizon
Bayonets fixed
In churches of gold
Slogans sung in the park
Girls in flowing dresses
Marching for peace
Streets of Chicago
Whose next to fall
When the frigid wind blows
Through the frozen avenues
Splashed with blood,
Water and hate

A magazine photo of our distraught woman
Shocked at the lifeless kid
Who needs
Attention
We all do
Down the dusty roads
To freedom

MOM

Mom-March 15, 2012 –Hilda Schiffres

She left a year ago
I shocked myself and the misery
Out of my heart
Harder then dying
To live that night

But now I have to let her go
I can’t hold the pain anymore
It wouldn’t be fair

Someone said she’s in a better place
What does that mean
Is she shaking up heaven
Arguing with the angels
Or just sipping wine
Most likely doing charity as was her way
And my legacy

One day here
One second gone
Don’t be sorry for our loss
Be happy for heaven’s gain
Her spirit
Dancing in heaven

Enjoy eternity
You earned it
You touched so many
With humor and warmth
Dance with the angels
The floor is yours

So we take leave
But not your soul
Dance with Dad
And laugh with your friends and kin
A step-child of the holocaust
That turned out right

What a night
When you took that train
No mistake
Your welcome there
With love

Moon Glow (c)2013 Jay Schiffres

Way Up Above

Way up above © 2013 Jay Schiffres

Sitting on the edge of the moon
Looking up at mother earth
Turning like a blue balloon

Got my guitar, stroked a few chords
Wait for the day rise
Not a surprise anymore

Who is to blame
For this job
Mining for monsters
Cause there’s oil in these caves
Can’t believe how we were made to think
That people were worth killing for the poison in the breeze.

Banished here forever
A working slob
While my children play
Way up above
I got nothing to say
Just memories of love

Have a fish tank on my head
Wondering what I am
Just give me a drink
And I’ll work for your company

Need  to come up with a plan
For now gonna strum this guitar
Till I turn blue as that balloon

Sitting on the edge of the moon
Looking up at mother earth

Return-Some Day

Return-Some Day © 2013 Jay Schiffres

The Children
The future
Burned, gassed
The families
Burned gassed
And now it is said
That many more died
In 40,000 camps
Spread through Europe
Does this horror ever end
No
It is there for all to see
Through the ages
Never again we pray
For the day
When those souls
Return
From their Exodus

Thoughts of Chairman Cheta

If the earth never had bananas
There would be no monkey jokes
Life is what happens to you
When there are no monkey jokes
Charles Darwin usual Halloween costume
Mr. Monkey
Man can not live on monkeys alone
“Me and my monkey” Lennon & McCartney
Faye Rae bit off more then she could chew
Tarzan is naked
Monkeys where dresses
“Ma Ma Monkey” “Howard Stern Show”
Some go ape some go monkey
If monkeys were elected to Congress
Nothing would change

ROSE (C) 2013 Jay Schiffres

The Last Country Western Song

The Last Country Western Song©2013 Jay Schiffres

Roses don’t grow
When years take their toll
You can put your money on that
Those flowers don’t thrive
When you’re trying to stay alive
Better cash in when you can

BUFFALOED (C) 2013 Jay Schiffres

Buffalo Bill was proud

Of his name

Of his horse

Of everything

He loved everyone

As long as they liked him

If they didn’t

Well that’s another story

Kind of gory

Hell if a cow guy

Can’t gut someone

What is the world coming to?

Listen, if your interested

I have a Rolex cheap

And, let me whisper this,

I got me a drone here

Man it is neat

Don’t use it now

No Sir…but if you don’t

Like someone

Well…..

JOHN

JOHN ©2013 Jay Schiffres

IMAGINE THERES NO DEATH
JUST A SWIRLING GALAXY
LOVE… YOUR LEGACY
IT CAN BE YOU KNOW
WE CAN MAKE IT SO

JOHN, JOHN, JOHN
YOUR GONE
BUT REALLY GONE?

JOHN
YOU STARTED OUR THINKING
SWINGING
YOU WERENT THE PERFECT ONE
BUT YOU HAD A BIT OF CLASS
A BIT OF LOVE AND YES
A BIT OF HEROIN

BUT YOU WONDERED
ABOUT SO MANY THINGS
MANY MYSTERIES
YOU SET SO MANY THINKING

YOU MADE LOVE
ON THE COVER OF MAGAZINES
WE TIP OUR LOVE TO YOU
LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY

YOU WERE A BOY
AND ALWAYS WILL BE
FROZEN IN TIME MATE
WITH THAT SLY OLD SMILE
YOU DIDN’T WASTE AWAY OR TRY TO ESCAPE

JOHN JOHN
YOU DIED TO SOON
BUT NOW THERES ROOM
FOR ANOTHER ONE
WHO COMES SINGING LIKE A
DRUNKEN TROUBADOUR
INTO OUR HEARTS

WITH A LOVE LIKE THAT
YOU KNOW IT CAN’T BE BAD

Dude Ranch (c) 2013 Jay Schiffres

DUDE RANCH

The dust is rising in New York State
At a dude ranch
A place to escape
Close that gate
Or the horses will get out
They will escape
The dust is rising in New York State
I’m making the best of what’s left of my way
Close that gate
Don’t spur that stead
You might bleed
Or get well

ANOTHER DAY (c)2013 Jay Schiffres

ANOTHER DAY

It’s morning
And you can bet on it
Where did the night go
Or knights
Wearily leaning
On a telephone pole
The sun about to rise
Time now
To sing
Time to chirp
Time to cheer
The chance renewed
For another day

JUST WANT A WOMAN

JUST WANT A WOMAN © 2013 Jay Schiffres

Bungee jumping
From lofty heights
I see angels shooting by
Couple of devils
Along the way
Comes with the night

When it’s said and done
Just want a woman
Who understands
That money is not king
That life is not a fling
That there’s more to everything

Just want a woman
To stick with me
I swear to stick with her
Just want a woman
Who can read me
As I read her

Just want a woman
To hold my hand
Just want a woman
To stay

Summer
Spring
Winter
Fall

That’s all
And some time to pray

Ghost Rider ---photoScream

that divides the good and evil
then you have made it
to the Ghost Riders Steeple

The Waiting Game

I’m  alone
But
My cats
See me
Let me be

They sense fear
Or hope
Confusion
Delusion
And retreat
Where they feel
What I can’t see

When G-d is pushing
Or wishing
Or fishing
He sees me
Naked
Alone
With my fears
Hopes
Dreams

Waiting
Knowing
My next move
Is up to me

Age Old

Age Old

As I age
In this Age
Fear
Anger
Depression
Has taken hold
My brain screams
I am not old
I have ideas
Possibilities
Desires
And the hope
Of frequent erections
